Colin Forbes
Colin grew up playing his minor hockey mostly in BC and graduated from high school in Sherwood Park, AB before leaving home to play hockey. Colin, his wife Shannon, and their three boys have called Calgary home since he retired from professional hockey in May 2011. He is very involved in his boys’ minor hockey teams in the Northwest Warrior Hockey Association, coaching them all in Peewee, Atom, Novice, and Timbits for the past 8 years.
Colin played in over 1,000 professional hockey games in the NHL, AHL, and DEL (German Hockey League). Colin was selected in the 7th round, 166th overall in the 1994 NHL Hockey Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers after playing his draft year season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL. After his draft season was completed Colin committed to joining the University of North Dakota on a full scholarship but decided that summer to play the next two seasons for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL before turning Pro.
Colin’s professional hockey career included 311 NHL regular-season games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators, NY Rangers, and Washington Capitals. He also played in 13 NHL playoff games which included playing in the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals with the Philadelphia Flyers against the Detroit Red Wings. Over his 9 years in the NHL he got to play alongside some amazing players which included the likes of Eric Lindros, Mark Messier, Vincent Lecavalier, Eric Staal, Mark Giordano, Daniel Alfredsson, Marian Hossa, Jaromir Jagr, and Alex Ovechkin to name a few. During his hockey career, Colin was afforded the opportunity to be coached by some illustrious coaches such as Dave King, Bill Barber, Bruce Boudreau, Jacques Martin, and Roger Neilsen. Over his 15-year professional hockey career, Colin won two Championships, the 2006 AHL Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears and the 2007 DEL Championship with the Adler Mannheim. Colin also represented Canada in the German Cup and played in two Spengler Cups with his club team Mannheim.
Colin uses his on-ice and off-ice hockey experiences to help the kids develop their on-ice hockey skills and help them reach their potential not only as hockey players but also as a person. Colin has taken what he has learned from the numerous coaches he has had throughout his career and uses that as the foundation of his coaching philosophy of effort, determination, team, and fun.
